The case for going
plant-based at Alpen-Adria University
What is the problem?
57% of food emissions come from animal products
Food systems are responsible for around a third of all global greenhouse gas emissions, and animal products are the dominant driver. Meat and dairy alone generate more emissions than all the world's planes, ships, and cars combined. Every meal the AAU serves is a choice between perpetuating this crisis or being part of the solution.
What can we do?

Every plate is a decision the AAU makes and can change. In addition to its achievements in research and teaching, the University has set itself the goal of pursuing an active and sustainable environmental policy as a matter of course. Going 100% plant-based is one of the most visible, controllable ways to actually deliver on that promise.
Is that even possible?
University of Graz went fully plant-based. Central European University and students of many other Universities across Europe voted for 100% — the AAU involves staff, students and the public in it's environmental management. We are the students and we can make a change!

With our latest outreach, we cracked the 500 signature mark.
Our campaign attended the Fridays For Future protest in Klagenfurt. Our presence there was a big success - we gathered a lot of signatures and our coordinator Corinna even held a short speech.
The mayor of Klagenfurt Christian Scheider and a member of the municipal council, Michael Gußnig wrote a pubblic support statement for Plant-Based Universities and signed the petition. The mayor wrote "Universitäten sind sehr wichtige Institutionen und sollen Verantwortung für Verbesserung im Tierschutz tragen"
Shout out to the student representatives of Liberal Arts for making all of their get-togethers fully plant-based now!
...and that after our second outreach stall! Nowadays we gain up to 90 signatures per outreach thanks to you! <3
We took part in our universities sustainability forum and presented our project to countless professors. We gained our first 30+ signatures, mainly from professors and climate researchers.
